Brette Joyal

The Miss BC program has brought me many incredible memories throughout the years, as well as friendships that have remained.

My greatest memory was volunteering with the Ronald McDonald House. I'll never forget how much fun the kids had with us making gingerbread men and playing hide and seek. As a child growing up, who spent time in the hospital, it really meant a lot to me to be able to volunteer for this event.

At the moment I'm currently taking time from work to focus on my mental health. As many will remember, my platform focus was to improve mental health care in youth (and that includes me). I'm taking this time to journal and document my own struggles with PTSD, anxiety and depression and plan on hopefully starting a not for profit organization to help others in similar situations.

I truly believe that Miss BC has changed my life in so many ways. It has helped me to love myself and feel beautiful and strong, because sometimes I didn't feel this way, as well as, opened up opportunities to branch out and try new things.

I truly hope that every girl with an opportunity to participate in this wonderful program chooses too, it honestly was one of the greatest experiences in my life.
