Melissa Ren

Melissa Ren (nee- Muirhead) is from Port Moody BC and was crowned Miss Lower Mainland in 2011. She completed an Arts degree in Health Science at Simon Fraser University, and her passion for helping others has taken her to a career in the philanthropy department at BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Melissa strongly believes when you do good work, word gets around, and people go out of their way to help. With the support of family, friends, and the community, Melissa raised $20,000 in 2011 for various charities including: Cops for Cancer, Variety, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Martial Arts is one of her passions, she has been practicing the art of Japanese Jiu-Jitsu for the past 10 years, and received her black belt in April 2016. Melissa has been teaching self-defense classes for the past 8 years. These classes build safety awareness, confidence, community togetherness, and empowerment among her participants.

Melissa taught a self-defense class at the Miss BC Pageant last year, and is thrilled to be welcomed back again this year! The Miss BC Pageant is truly an extended family. It is a place where individuality is celebrated, personal strengths are embraced, and where support is never ending. A place to find your inner light and let it shine!
